Like Abby, I love high heels. My fantasy room has one of each of my favorite pairs artistically displayed. I met Abby as a "between-ager," that time when she built many of her negative self-perceptions. She shares her mother's wonderful, welcome, full-body loud laugh, and many of her dad's fabulous qualities, including drive and a low threshold for things boring. All great qualities!!!As a long-time aspiring entrepreneur, I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting. It is well and warmly written. Abby's honesty is often heartbreaking, yet her humility with her obvious success keeps the reader genuinely engaged, cheering her every step. The reality of work/life (im)balance that young women today experience is mind boggling and exhausting to read about, though these women plod along as though it's second nature. Time for creative pursuits comes at the expense of sleep.Abby, you have inspired me to "Strap on a Pair"! I will highlight all your parenthetical notes to mom to expedite my own Google searches and to save time seeking the range of help this moderately tech-savvy, post middle-age grandma will need. Thank you for sharing your struggles and fears so that others can do build the courage to live the lives their passions dictate and make the unique contributions only they can make.So let's talk price. I would readily have paid a standard Kindle book price for the pleasure of reading about your experiences as well as for the "how-to" lessons. $9.99? $12.99? Go for it!
Full disclosure: I am a friend of Abby's.Now that this fact is out if the way, let's talk about the book. I read it in one sitting in an afternoon. I couldn't put it down. As I read the words, I could hear her voice, her laugh, and I could feel her struggles. Strap On A Pair is written from the heart and with authenticity. It brings levity to something so many of us struggle with. As much as enjoying the voice of her story, I also found that so much resonated with me about how to make the changes I need.Whether you are reading for fun, to get inspired, or aren't quite sure why, let Abby take you on a journey. You won't regret it!
I think Abby's story is something special. I appreciate how she was able to write such a personal journey in a way that was funny, raw and real. The book is authentic and well-written. I highly recommend taking up this chance to read her story! Her story has encouraged me and inspired me. I believe that it can do the same for you!
As a business coach I appreciate the transparency that Abby used to write this book. Too many times we get to see the cherry on top version of an entrepreneurs success. Complete with a a couple of low periods to make it real. The way Abby detailed her highs and lows and used her candidness in this book showcased the true ingredient to success in business. Pure grit and determination. Coupled with the frustrations and real world hurdles of getting to the top and surpassing your wildest dreams. A must read for anyone that feels their vision is bigger than their current state of being. Congrats on all your success Abby! The truth is, you are just getting started!
I flew through this book!!!Abby writes a focused, fun and gutsy account of starting her business. I love how she gave us the real look at the hard parts as well as the amazing parts of her entrepreneurial adventure from 2012 through 2017.She’s enthusiastic and honest. I winced through some of the stories and wanted to hug her in other stories. Even though we have more resources to start a business, it’s still hard and risky. Abby shows the importance of persistence, asking questions and having a support network.Definitely a book I will re-read!
Abby is an inspiration! Get this book if you want something MORE out of your life. She is the real deal. Don't wait! XO
What a great read easy and light and funny. Abby pretty much has it all but is not fulfilled with her career. So grabs herself by the heels and starts her own business! You cheer for her after every chapter! It’s hard to have it all as a young mom today but Abby has. Read her story! You will laugh!
I met the author over the summer and immediately liked her but... I didn't think I would ever read a book called "Strap on a Pair" (or felt compelled to leave a review!)Yet, here I am a few months later having just finished the book and leaving a review!And I think this speaks perfectly to the power of Abby Lou Walker and her message. She's all about action and it's (seemingly) impossible not to be inspired by her and to (almost by default) spring into action yourself by her example.When we met, Abby told me about the book she was about to publish and her enthusiasm was infectious so I asked her to send me a copy. But (if I'm being honest) I didn't really plan on reading it anytime soon (sorry Abby!). But she warmly reminded me about it one day via a sweet (but forceful) email and I decided to give one chapter a try and I was hooked.The subtitle for the book is "Middle-Aged, Middle-Management, Middle-Class Moms Quest for Something More"Now I'm not really any of those things (except perhaps "middle-aged ;) but my life has been all about the "quest for something more" and her hilarious, vulnerable and totally relatable way of explaining how this has played out in her own life had me nodding my head and silently saying "Me too" throughout this book.She's a fantastic writer but I think most importantly, someone you want to root for and the type of person you want in your corner.If you're looking for "something more" (and who isn't?) I would highly recommend reading "Strap on a Pair" (today!).
