This book is one of the best (and unfortunately, one of the few) books on the subject of how the church treats single women and fatherless children. While today's buzzwords for these people are "disenfranchised" or "marginalized," the more accurate word is "pain." All too often members of the church stand in judgment, leaving material and emotional support for precious and hurting children of God to secular agencies. I know because I've been one of those women and my son was one of those children. When my husband abruptly left our family, there was no child support, no contact for my son with his father. I was working part-time initially, but soon after began working full-time and my 5-year-old son basically went from two parents to one part-time parent. It was hard to witness and deal with the effects of his pain. It was hard enough to deal with my own, especially when since I was suddenly single, I was expelled from the couples Bible study my husband and I had attended and told that I "would be more comfortable" in one for singles. So rejection was immediately added to abandonment.I know that Mr. Shaw cautions against telling a newly husbandless woman that God will be her husband (and I agree that mouthing Isaiah 54:5 as a platitude is insensitive), God truly did become my husband and my son's father. We saw miracle after miracle of provision, protection and grace. We gradually found acceptance in a loving church and another miracle, this time financial, allowed me to send my son to a Christian school where godly men mentored him. Still today, ten years after his high school graduation, a couple of male teachers from school maintain contact with him. Bless them!Thank you Nathan Shaw for writing this book. I am recommending it to several pastors and others in ministry.
I have never read a book so fast. Listen to me!!!! Every household in America should have a copy of this book in it. The cover, (forgive me Nathan Shaw), looks like another white picket fence christian title and style. Nope, nope, nope. This book is packed with serious deep level issues of family dysfunction, understanding the key point of why most marriages fail and the majority of "adults" are children who are still looking to complete the area's of abandonment and hurt, by transferring that need to fill the hole through their spouses, friends and employers. This book shows how to restore dignity and honor, and one principle of order that God has provided for us to succeed, is hidden like deep and long forgotten treasure, in caring for the needs of the widow in their distress. And let me just say........you don't know what the sentence means, until you read the book. It's not as it appears. God has given Nathan the revelation, as he has to others, for this time in history. This book is as much about the widow, the fatherless and the divorced women as it is about anyone who grew up with a father who was not whole as a person, and still living with the pain of his own childhood. Just having the understanding, will unlock you to receive healing and wholeness and have honor and dignity restored. We live in a majority society where insecurity and inferiority has stopped the process of purpose and destiny, for the very reasons you will find in this book. The amazing thing for me is, this is confirmation to what God is and has already revealed to me. But Nathan is an excellent communicator in articulating his message. There is no fluff. It's all intense. Read it, and pass it on. Write the reviews, tell your friends. Unlock your blessing.
I fall into more than one of the categories Nathan describes in this book and as I read this book through, it opened my eyes to the true reality of my situation. Along with that truth incredibly at the same time this book has opened my eyes to the truth that with the tender care and love that only the Father could, He has been working His purposes for my life out and He is in the process of giving significance and purpose to the painful seasons I am walking through.I will be re reading this book. Thank you Nathan.
